Formerly the butcher's shop in Elham
now a residential property. Dennis Caister was the last butcher to run
this shop as well as another one in Shepherdswell. Dennis grew up in Elham and
his fondness for the village remained right up until his untimely death. He was
a great friend and asset to the villagers and the businesses he supplied up and
down the valley.

The Elham Village Study (1968) describes both the house, Brogdale and the shop, it states "This house, of red brick, with the ground floor re-fronted in white stucco, dates from the 18th century. The four main windows still have their original glazing bars.
The butcher's shop, with its canopy, bars and hooks for hanging meat outside (a practice no longer allowed), is well worth preserving as a good example of a 19th century Butcher's shop front. It could, however disappear from the village scene, as the lease has not long to run."
At the time of the Village Study the shop was run by A.T.Clark, it was then taken over by Dennis Caister.
