The strange mound that can be seen in the middle of this picture has been explained away by various local scholars and experts. Some say that it is a Saxon burial mound, others spoil from the construction of the Elham Valley Railway, the result of over zealous gardening by George Crow or even more incredibly spoil from the Ottinge Treacle Mine!
